At Aquadam, our epoxy tank is called the “Rhino Tank”. This tank has a wide variety of uses in various industries. We’ll look at the benefits of the coating, the uses and more.

Firstly, let’s talk about the Epoxy Coating. This is the coating that makes all the magic happen with our Rhino Tank.

What is Epoxy?

You get different kinds of epoxies, ranging from adhesives, coatings and even use in electronics.

Epoxy is either any of the basic components or the cured end products of epoxy resins, as well as a colloquial name for the epoxide functional group.[1] Epoxy resins, also known as polyepoxides, are a class of reactive prepolymers and polymers which contain epoxide groups. “

– Wikipedia

The reaction of polyepoxides with themselves or with polyfunctional hardeners forms a thermosetting polymer, often with favorable mechanical properties and high thermal and chemical resistance.

This is music to anyone’s ears when they are looking for a heavy-duty tank that will store more than just water.

Common Applications of Epoxy:

  • Paints and coatings
  • Adhesives
  • Industrial tooling and composites
  • Wind Turbine Technology composites
  • Electrical systems and electronics
  • Petroleum & petrochemical
  • Consumer and marine applications
  • Aerospace applications
  • Biology
  • Art

Epoxy Tank Benefits:

As can be seen from the information above, epoxy has a wide variety of uses. However, in the Tank manufacturing industry, it is loved for the benefits that it brings to the table.

The Rhino Tank is coated with a thermally bonded epoxy. But why did we invest so much time and energy in creating a tank with this coating? Simple:

Higher Impact Durability:

And Epoxy Tank can offer much higher impact durability than conventional tanks. Therefore, you do not need to worry about scratches, dents and/or chipping of paint, The Epoxy coating will ensure that your tank withstands any harsh weather conditions.

Furthermore, the tank is made with tough, bolted steel. Therefore, the tank withstands massive pressure from within and from outside. The tank can be filled up to the brim with no issues.

Highly Corrosion Resistant

Corrosion is a natural process that occurs and can damage your steel tanks.

There are five different types of corrosions namely:

  • Galvanic Corrosion
  • Stress-corrosion cracking
  • General Corrosion
  • Localized corrosion
  • Corrosion caused by caustic agents (chemicals etc.)

You can read more about the various corrosions and how Aquadam prevents them in their tanks in our previous article: Corrosion and Steel Tanks

A Thermally bonded epoxy coating ensures that the tank will not suffer any corrosion from the abovementioned agents/circumstances. Therefore, the Rhino tank can be used virtually anywhere, to store a wide variety of liquids.

Highly Chemical Resistant Epoxy Tank

Additionally, the epoxy tank can be used for chemical storage.

The Rhino tank is made to the specifications of the client. Therefore, you are in control of everything. There are different additives to the epoxy (Different types of coatings) that are applied for certain chemicals.

As a result, Aquadam can create a custom tank suited to your needs.

Some of the Chemicals and other liquids that can be stored in the epoxy tank:

  • Flammable liquids
  • Alcohol
  • Fermentation Tanks
  • Frac Water

The Rhino Water Tank is well suited for storing a wide variety of liquid chemicals, with pH suitability of 2-11 and temperatures of up to 60° C.

High Thermal Resistance

The Epoxy Tank is ideal for clients looking for heat or cold-resistant storage solution. The epoxy coating ensures that the tank is highly thermal resistant. Therefore, the tank can stand in ice-cold weather or under the desert sun, and it will still perform the way it should.

Additionally, the coating means that the liquid stored inside can also be as high as 60° C in temperature.

Therefore, the Rhino Tank is frequently used as a thermal energy tank.

Epoxy Tank Standards in the industry

Epoxy coating is tested to stringent standards. It meets or exceeds the following internationally comparable coating requirements:

  • ISO 12944
  • WIS 4-25-01v
  • EEA 7.24
  • ISO 28765:2008
  • EEA 7.20
  • EEA 7.25
  • AWWA D103-97
  • WRAS

Epoxy Tank

At Aquadam, we refuse to take any shortcuts. Each and every tank that goes out for installation is inspected and tested to meet our high standards. That is how we can guarantees that only 100% defect-free panels leave the factory. Making your decision to purchase a whole lot easier.

In addition, the coating system used is electrostatically charged. Therefore, all internal bolt holes and sheet edges are thoroughly coated for maximum protection. This ensures the highest quality, every time.

Did we mention that we have a standard 20-year warranty on all of our tanks?

Additional Epoxy Tank Applications:

The Rhino Tank can be used in the following applications:

Water Tanks:

The Epoxy Coated tanks can be used for water tanks in remote and rural area sites. Additionally, it can be used as storm-water retention basins, water purification tanks, mining water tanks, clearwater tanks, and potable water tanks to name a few.

Water Purification/Treatment Tanks

The Rhino Tanks can be used for the clarifier tanks. It’s applications also include Septic tanks, sewage tanks, slurry tanks.

Additionally, it can be used for recycling greywater and as a water purification tank. The coatings make it highly corrosion resistant so none of these liquids will damage your tank.

Industry-Specific Applications

The Rhino Tank has a lot of uses in almost all the major industries.

Agriculture: Water storage tanks for emergency water, irrigation and more.

Mining: Water storage, frac water, and filtration tanks.

Brewing/Manufacturing: The Rhino Tank can be used as a fermentation tank. Furthermore, it can be used in large-scale manufacturing of various liquid products as a storage unit for the different chemical ingredients.

Industrial: Storage of chemicals. Additionally, it is a thermal energy tank.
