Steel Storage Tanks are one of the most effective ways to store your water. Many people feel that having a storage tank is excessive, but when you think about the fact that only the oxygen we breathe is more important to human survival than water, you start to wonder whether you should invest in a water storage tank for yourself. If you are still unsure of how important water actually is for our daily lives, head on over to our previous post on The Importance of Water to find out how much water the average South African uses.
Water is the Driving Force of All Nature.

Sectors that use water on a daily basis:
It is undeniable that water is needed in some way, shape or form every single day. The three main sectors that make use of large amounts of water daily is:
- Domestic Sector
- Agricultural Sector
- Industrial Sector
Of all these sectors, it may come as a surprise that the Agricultural Sector makes use of most of the water in South Africa. To be more specific, the Agricultural Sector in South Africa used over 60% of the water according to statistics from 2015.

Furthermore, 30% was used for domestic use, and the last 10% for industrial uses like mining, power generation, and afforestation. Each one of these three sectors has very specific needs which a steel storage tank needs to fulfill. We will briefly look at some of these needs that are unique to each one of the sectors.
Domestic Sector Steel Storage Tanks
In the domestic sector water usage, which mainly refers to the use of water for dishes, showering and drinking, a water steel storage container can help you out when there is an unexpected water cut (As South African residents, we know that these are not uncommon, no matter where you live)
Steel containers are ideal for water storage. As an addition at Aquadam, we have engineered a rainwater collecting system that can be installed with your steel water storage tank. Therefore, you will be able to collect rainwater and save on your water bill at the end of the month.
It really is a win-win situation.
Some characteristics and information on our of a domestic/ home steel water tank:
- Made with Zincalume
- Corrugated Water Tank
- 1000 liter (minimum) – 60, 000 litres (maximum) water tank manufacturing range
- Option to set up to harvest rainwater or have inlet pipe from the main municipal water system, or BOTH!
- Can be portable (Can move it)
- The option of colour: Black, Grey or, Cream

Why are these steel tanks ideal for Domestic Use?
Our Zincalume Steel Water tanks were designed with a specific purpose in mind: To give our customers the best, most environmentally friendly and efficient water storage container.
The Zincalume tank is manufactured in a Slimline style to make it easy to fit into almost any Urban area without taking up too much space.Furthermore, the steel ensures that the tank can take an immense amount or pressure without ever buckling, bulging or breaking. ربحك فري فاير
Last, but not least, the aesthetics have been taken into account. Therefore, it is built and coated in such a way that the colour of your tank will not deteriorate or fade. What else could you possibly want in a domestic water storage tank?

Agricultural Sector Steel Tanks
The biggest consumers are not, as is frequently believed, mining and other heavy industries, but agriculture. While steel water-storage tanks are commonly used for all manner of purposes, it is to the nation’s farmers that they are probably most vital. For farmers and for anyone who may be planning to purchase one of these vessels, there are a number of important things to look out for.
But first, what are these storage tanks used for in the agricultural sector?
Steel storage tanks are usually used to store large quantities of water. This water can be used for:
- Irrigation
- Water for their Livestock
- Pesticide and Fertilizer Applications
Some of the requirements that the Agricultural water tanks will have to adhere to:

Sufficient Size of the Water Tank
The first requirement will obviously be for a vessel of sufficient size of the steel tank. Although one might reasonably expect that the product specification will state this accurately, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, some manufacturers will simply calculate this from the product of the base area and the total height, which could be substantially more than its actual capacity.
**Important Note: Be sure to check if the calculation for the capacity of the steel tank includes the height of the freeboard, as it is the height of the overflow pipe that determines the true capacity of a steel water storage tank.
Sufficient Strength of the Water Tank
Just as important as the volume of liquid it can hold is the innate strength of the steel tank. Its walls must be of a thickness that enables it to withstand the internal pressure due to the liquid without any distortion when it is filled to capacity. However, when empty and without the weight of its contents to stabilize it, the vessel should also be able to stand up to the buffeting of high winds without buckling under the strain. The mechanical strength required to maintain its shape under these extremes of pressure is one of the distinguishing features of high-quality steel water-storage tanks and should allow them to withstand wind speeds of up to 100 km/h. Their strength and stability in exposed areas where there is a heightened risk of high winds will be further increased when these vessels are also fitted with anchor brackets.

Sufficient Durability of Water Tank
Important not just to their stability, securing these vessels to a steel-reinforced concrete base has the secondary function of preventing contact with the soil or grass which, over time, could cause the base of these steel water storage tanks to begin corroding. Internally too, any long term contact with water also poses a potential threat of rust.
While this can be concerning, manufacturers of these steel water tanks have a standard defense: Fit a plastic liner into the steel tank to prevent prolonged contact with water.

Industrial Sector Steel Tanks
The industrial sector refers to all the mining sectors and industries that work with various chemicals and purification plants. As a result, are many uses for Steel tanks all over the industrial sector.
These steel tanks can be used for the following purposes (to mention a few)
- Chemical-resistant Storage Tanks/Containers
- Sewage Tanks
- Slurry Tanks
- Thermal energy tanks
- Wastewater treatment tanks
- Water purification tanks
These are only some of the end-use application for our highly versatile steel tanks.
What makes these steel tanks so different from their normal counterpart steel tanks?
The Rhino Water Tank is a tough bolted steel tank covered with a thermally bonded epoxy coating for higher impact durability.
Therefore, this steel tank is highly corrosion and chemical-resistant, this tank is virtually resilient to on-site damage and exceeds coating requirements. مجموعات اليورو 2024

Manufacturing Times of Steel Storage Containers
Manufacturing time depends on what type of tank you are buying. This includes factors like the size, material and additional specifications. Therefore, each project is unique to the client. Usually, the turnaround time can be between 2 – 6 weeks from ordering to delivery.
However, at Aquadam we strive to have fast turnaround times when it comes to the manufacturing process. So rest assured knowing that we treat each and every project as important.
We have been one of the leading steel tank manufacturers in South Africa for almost 30 years. Therefore, we invest time in manufacturing the best products to uphold our quality.
